Las Ciudades de Nueva Zelanda

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses ‒ that of the North and South Islands ‒ and numerous smaller islands.  New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island nations of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans.

Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand

The majority of New Zealand's population is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and non-Māori Polynesians. English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language are the official languages, with English predominant.

New Zealand, originally part of the colony of New South Wales, became a separate Colony of New Zealand on 1 July 1841. The colony gained a representative government in 1852 and the 1st New Zealand Parliament met in 1854. In 1856 the colony effectively became self-governing, gaining responsibility over all domestic matters other than native policy.

Auckland

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and most multicultural city, with the biggest Polynesian population of any city in the world. It is located on the northern half of the North Island. Auckland is often known as the “City of Sails” due to the large number of yachts that dock in the Waitemata Harbour, as well as the “City of Extinct Volcanoes”.

Auckland War Memorial Museum
Despite the name, this is a general museum rather than primarily a war museum, and it is one of the best in New Zealand. Here, there are a number of Māori and other Polynesian peoples’ arts and crafts shown.

Sky Tower
This is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, offering views of up to 8- km away and a revolving restaurant at the top of the tower.

Day Trips
Hauraki Gulf – this area comprises 47 islands, the most popular being Waiheke for its beaches and bays.

TIME Unlimited – a set of cultural, fishing, kayaking, trekking and sightseeing tours focused around the Māori lifestyle.

Queenstown
Queenstown is a scenic town in the South Island of New Zealand, and is one of the most beautiful regions offering year round attractions. The town sits on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, one of New Zealand’s most scenic lakes, and is surrounded by the Southern Alps. The city is also known for its Hobbits, as much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in the area.

Activities
Queenstown is world-renowned for its adventure, and is home to a huge choice of activities, ranging across all seasons. Some of these include bungy jumping, cycling, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountaineering, parasailing, scenic flights, skiing and snowboarding, white water rafting, wine tasting and ziplining.

Wellington

Wellington is New Zealand’s capital however, given the relatively small population, there’s an astounding number of quality restaurants, cafés, bars, galleries, shops and theatres here.

It has a beautiful aspect with timber Victorian houses terrace up steep valleys from the waterfront in an almost San Franciscan manner.

Wellington Harbour, Wellington

In 2008, Wellington was classified as a Gamma World City in the World Cities Study Group’s inventory by Loughborough University. The 2010 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Wellington 12th in the world. In 2011 Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2011 named Wellington as fourth in its Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2011, referring to the New Zealand capital as the "coolest little capital in the world", making it a city definitely worth visting.
